"Struggles of Secret Santa"

As soon as I arrived to work that day,
My manager asked me, without any delay
"Jackie, we're doing Secret Santa, you in?".
I agreed, not knowing a struggle would begin.

Secret Santa seems easy, nice, even fun.
Who knew I would end up stressing a ton?
On Christmas Eve eve, I needed to figure things out.
Stores are closed on Sundays, I wanted to shout!

My dad was nice enough to give me a lift
To Passaic county to find the right gift.
I found something nice and waited on line,
Now everything would be just fine.

I brought the present to work on Christmas Eve.
I could drop off the present, and then I would leave.
My manager said something that made me upset:
"You don't need to bring your present just yet!".

He said we were opening them the week after,
I had no response, just nervous laughter.
Then I decided to get something better,
A scarf, perfume, maybe a sweater?

I ended up buying an entirely new present
Just so my person's response would be pleasant.
I wrapped this brand new gift and sighed.
They would never know how hard I had tried.

The day we all got together to exchange,
I was hoping that my present didn't seem strange.
My person opened her gift, and what made me happy
Was hearing "Oh my gosh, I love it Jackie!".

  3. Wow, what are the odds of that! Of course, you struggle getting the gift and it's not needed until a week later, haha! Great poem by the way!

  4. Great poem! My favorite part was when you said you responded with nervous laughter because I can perfectly picture that reaction of yours in my head. I hope you ended up getting a good gift, too; you deserved it for all your effort!
